Aligners are the most modern appliances for correcting misaligned teeth. Unlike traditional metal braces, aligners can be removed and are almost invisible when worn. Due to their precision, comfort and numerous other advantages, they are gradually replacing traditional metal braces.
For more information please visit our Aligner page.
Today, many malocclusions can be treated with aligners. In countries such as Switzerland, Norway, USA or South Korea aligner treatments for adults have since overtaken traditional braces. Of course, like any other technology, aligners have their current limitations. For this reason, we offer a free consultation where our dentists can examine your teeth in more detail and discuss treatment options with you.
Malocclusion types that JustSmile treats:
Crowding occurs when the teeth do not have enough space next to each other in an arch. In addition to aesthetic problems, this discrepancy makes it more difficult to clean the teeth and can lead to gum inflammation, tartar and tooth decay more easily than with a normal set of teeth.
In contrast to crowded teeth, a gap dentition is when the available space is larger than the teeth need. Most often a gap is formed between the two upper incisors, called diastema, but it can also occur in posterior regions.
The plaque that easily sticks in the gaps can lead to gingivitis and tooth decay.
An open bite is when the upper and lower incisors do not come into contact in a closed position. It can be hereditary or acquired. In childhood, prolonged pacifier sucking, finger sucking, tongue thrust swallowing and mouth breathing can all be predisposing factors.
Open bites can cause not only aesthetic problems but also chewing and speech difficulties.
Crossbite can affect a single tooth or even whole groups of teeth.
This can result in asymmetry, speech and joint problems and abnormal tooth wear.
No! That is a very sweeping statement and therefore lacks medical basis. Each case should be evaluated individually. The fact is that many cases (malocclusions) can be treated with aligners, but there are some, mostly severe, that require alternative orthodontic treatment.
The duration of your aligner treatment depends on the misalignment of your teeth. Our dentist can give you an approximate number in months once your treatment plan is finalized. Most aligner treatments only last between 3 and 14 months.
To obtain very accurate data about the position of your teeth, we use an high-tech intraoral scanner that maps your teeth. Only on the basis of such a digital map can we create your treatment plan with software. 3D scanning takes only a few minutes and is painless.
Before intraoral scanners, dentists used classic impressions using silicone materials placed in impression trays. One for each jaw and one for your bite registration. We find digital impressions to be a more precise and pleasant solution than traditional impressions.
Our medical team will guide you through the whole JustSmile alignment journey. The number of appointments varies depending on the duration of your treatment, but below is an overview of the most important appointments:
1. Consultation & 3D scan
2. Discuss your treatment plan with the dentist
3. Fitting and pick-up of your aligners
4. Regular check-ups, usually every 6 weeks. Might also be virtual via DentalMonitoring.
5. Final appointment
At JustSmile we use the most advanced materials available on the market. Our aligners are made of Zendura FLX , which features a unique dual shell construction with an elastomeric polyurethane inner core surrounded by a hard outer shell. At the same time we are constantly testing new technologies and investing in new devices.
Attachments are barely noticeable composite parts that are bonded to the teeth temporarily and support tooth movement with the aligners. Our dentist will be able to tell you if they are needed once the treatment plan is ready.
IPR (interproximal reduction), also known as stripping, is actually a minimal reduction in the width of the teeth. This is necessary when you want to create space for the teeth to be properly aligned within an arch. This way, malocclusion can be resolved without the need for tooth extraction. IPR is a very common and well-established technique in orthodontic treatment. It is important to emphasize that it does not cause any problems later on and does not reduce the life and resistance of the teeth.
Until the small gap is closed during the treatment, great emphasis should be placed on thoroughly cleaning the resulting space using dental cleaning brushes, which our colleagues will teach you during the treatment.
In some cases a refinement might be required to achieve the desired result. A refinement usually includes a new 3D scan and additional aligners.
A retainer is a device that keeps your teeth in position after your treatment. We offer two types of retainers:
To achieve the desired result according to your treatment plan, you should wear your aligner 22 hours a day and only remove it for eating, drinking, dental care, etc.
Treatment takes place in steps. One set of aligners is needed for each step. One step usually lasts 2 weeks. Your dentist can sometimes adjust the length of step as needed.
Most people experience a feeling of pressure, pulling, discomfort or slight pain for a few days after changing the aligner. It's natural and it means that the aligner works and moves your teeth to the right place. This feeling gradually disappears after a few days. If not, consult with your dentist.
Like any orthodontic treatment, aligners can temporarily affect your speech and you may speak with a slight lisp for a day or two. When your tongue gets used to the presence of the aligner in your mouth, the subtle lisp usually disappears.
Subtle discrepancies between the new aligner and the current position of the teeth are normal, as it takes a while for the teeth to adjust to the aligner. If the problem persists, contact your dentist.
Not at all. Unlike traditional braces, you can eat and drink anything you like because you will remove the aligners before eating.
Sugar and acid free cold or lukewarm drinks yes, but hot drinks are not recommended, as they could cause stains or bend the aligner.
No, it is not recommended because the chewing gum sticks to the aligner and is hard to remove. In addition, chewing gum constantly exerts an unnatural pressure on the aligner, which does not comply with the wearing instructions.
Yes, smoking or chewing tobacco can stain the aligner, so it is recommended to remove the aligners during this time.
If you lose or break your aligner, tell your dentist immediately. Your dentist will probably advise you to use the previous or next set of aligners. Your dentist will then order a new set of aligners, which should be delivered within a few days.
Attachments can be replaced easily, contact your dentist immediately.
Virtual Monitoring allows you to have your regular check-ups in a virtual way with the help of the ScanBox, which is a device designed to apply from the convenience of your home. This is especially convenient for people living outside Hungary, people with busy schedules, digital nomads and other.
Please visit our Virtual Monitoring section for more information.
Mouth guards are similar to aligners that are fitted to your teeth, but in most cases they are made of more layers and are thicker to withstand higher forces and last longer.
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made dental restorations (shells) that are placed on the front of the teeth to improve their aesthetic appearance, color or shape.
They are usually made of ceramic or composite. Porcelain (ceramic) veneers are more durable and look more natural, while composite veneers are cheaper and quicker to produce.
With proper care, ceramic veneers last 10-15 years, while composite veneers usually last 5-7 years.
The application of veneers is usually associated with minimal pain. A local anaesthetic is used during the procedure to minimize discomfort.
When applying veneers, it is usually necessary to remove a minimum amount of enamel from the tooth surface to make room for the shell. However, this does not significantly weaken the teeth.
Prices can vary considerably depending on the material chosen, with ceramic veneers generally being more expensive than composite veneers.
Veneers must be cared for in the same way as natural teeth: regular brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups are required.
Veneers are best suited for people who have discolored, chipped, broken or irregularly shaped teeth. However, they are not recommended in all cases, such as severely damaged or weakened teeth.
Porcelain (ceramic) veneers are resistant to discoloration, while composite veneers can discolor over time, but they are also less prone to discoloration than natural teeth.
Once the veneers have been fitted, they cannot be removed without damaging the teeth, as part of the enamel is removed when the teeth are prepared. As soon as the veneers are removed, new ones usually have to be made.
A dental crown is a “cap” that is placed on the tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and aesthetics. The crown is placed on the prepared tooth stump, which is located above the gum.
A dental crown is required if the tooth is severely damaged, broken or decayed or has undergone root canal treatment.
Crowns can be made of different materials such as ceramic, metal, metal-ceramic or zirconium. The chosen material has an influence on the durability, aesthetics and price of the crown.
JustSmile uses crowns made of zirconium or ceramic.
Dental crowns usually last 10-15 years, but can last longer with proper care. The longevity depends on the material and the patient's oral hygiene.
When preparing the tooth for the crown and during the placement of the crown, the dentist uses a local anesthetic to minimize pain.
Crowns must be cared for in the same way as natural teeth: regular brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups are required.
The price of a dental crown can vary considerably depending on the material chosen. In general, metal-ceramic crowns are less expensive, while all-porcelain or zirconium crowns are more expensive.
Modern dental crowns, especially crowns made of porcelain (ceramic) and zirconium, look very natural and can hardly be distinguished from natural teeth.
Ceramic crowns are resistant to discoloration.
Yes, over time crowns can wear down, become loose or need to be replaced due to gum recession. Regular dental check-ups can help to identify early on whether they need to be replaced.
A dental bridge is a fixed prosthesis that replaces one or more missing teeth. The bridge is attached to the teeth or implants to the left and right of the gap and fills the gap of the missing tooth.
A dental bridge is needed when one or more teeth are missing. A bridge helps to restore the aesthetics of the smile, the chewing function and the correct bite.
Bridges can be made of various materials, e.g. ceramic, metal-ceramic or zirconium. The choice of material depends on the esthetic requirements, the position of the bridge and the patient's preferences.
JustSmile uses bridges made of zirconium or ceramic.
Dental bridges usually last 10-15 years, with good oral hygiene they can last even longer.
The care of dental bridges is similar to that of natural teeth: Regular brushing and flossing are necessary, especially to clean the areas under the bridge.
Before applying the dental bridge, the adjacent teeth must be ground down under local anesthesia. The patient may experience minimal pain during the procedure and slight discomfort during the recovery phase.
The cost of a dental bridge depends on a number of factors, including the materials used, the length of the replacement and the type of bridge. Implant-supported bridges are generally more expensive than conventional bridges.
Modern dental bridges, especially those made of porcelain or zirconium, look very natural and can hardly be distinguished from natural teeth.
Ceramic bridges are resistant to discoloration, but the adjacent natural teeth can become discolored, which can affect the overall appearance.
When placing a traditional dental bridge, some of the enamel must be removed to prepare the neighboring teeth. This can cause minimal damage to the teeth, but if the bridge is well made and properly cared for, it should not cause any major problems in the long term.
Yes, over time dental bridges can wear out, become loose or need to be replaced due to gum recession. Regular dental check-ups help you to recognize in good time whether they need to be replaced.
Regular dental hygiene appointments are essential for your oral health and recommended every 6-12 months. Our dental professionals first will thoroughly examine the entire set of teeth. Then all tartar and plaque on and between the teeth is removed. At the end all tooth surfaces are coated with a fluoride gel, which protects from acid attacks of oral bacteria.
Teeth naturally discolor, especially when drinking coffee, wine or in case of smoking. During bleaching usually a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide-based gel is applied to the surface of the discolored teeth. This breaks up the stains, making the color less concentrated and the teeth brighter and whiter.
The whitening (bleaching) kit for home appliance is included in the aligner treatment. Or you can also chose a whitening treatment at our practice for small extra charge.
You can book your free appointment easily online through our webpage, via phone or in person. The consultation including a pain-free 3D scan of your teeth takes around 30 minutes only.
There is no need to bring a panoramic x-ray to the aligner consultation since we can take one at our practice for a small fee.
But of course, we also accept x-rays from other institutions, as long as it is no more than three months old and no dental treatment has been performed since the x-ray was taken.
You can always reach our practice via email, phone, contact form or visit us in person. You will find the contact details on our location page.
You can reschedule your appointment using the button in the confirmation, email or by telephone. If you reschedule or cancel your appointment less than 24 hours in advance, a fee will be charged.
