Then all tartar and plaque on and between the teeth is removed. At the end all tooth surfaces are coated with a fluoride gel, which protects from acid attacks of oral bacteria.

During bleaching usually a hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide-based gel is applied to the surface of the discolored teeth. This breaks up the stains, making the color less concentrated and the teeth brighter and whiter.
